This baby sweater is so simple (yet brilliant) to knit. If you put your mind to it, you can knit it up in a weekend, which includes the seaming. The challenging part for me was figuring out how to attach the ribbon ties. After weeks of hemming and hawing, I just carefully hand stitched them on.
Pattern: Mason Dixon Knitting by Ann Shayne/Kay Gardiner, Baby Kimono
Yarn: Filatura di Crosa Porto Cervo
Needles: Addi Turbo Size 6 (7? I forget.)
Other Materials: 1 yard of pink ribbon, embroidery floss for attaching ribbon, sewing needle, Dritz Fray Check
NotesI used mattress stitch for the arm seams and an invisible vertical seam (for garter stitch) for the side seams. My side seams ROCK. You can't even tell it is a seam. It just looks like part of the garter stitch. I should have taken a picture of the side seams to show you.
As I mentioned above, I stressed over how I was going to attach the ribbon ties to the sweater. I used some DMC embroidery floss and hand stitched it all. It looks great!
One thing I found at Joann one day is this product called Fray Check by Dritz. You can find this stuff in the sewing notions area. I think I paid $2-3. I applied a thin line to the ends of my ribbon to prevent it from fraying. It really works.

Cute!! :)
Nice job! And yup, Fray Check is great. Beats trying to stitch up the tiniest hem in the universe for ribbons.
Hi Betty!
Lovely baby sweater! And I like your blog logo. I just wanted to say hi and say thanks for your lovely comment about Ivy. I'm so touched.
Hi,
I love the bag. What pattern did you use? I also love the kimono I was searching for a pattern, now I have found one. Thanks
